When things multiply in your mind…

Have you ever had one of those sleepless nights where right before hitting the hay you think of some issue in your life…then you snowball it to the point where it is a huge problem and all you can do for the next several hours is toss and turn and somehow make it even worse in your mind? Or better yet when you have a big decision to make-a new home or car perhaps, or a job search… and you take the criteria and somehow multiply it to the point where no matter how organized you are it is so in depth that not even a super computer could break it down to human comprehension? Well, if you’ve answered yes, which I’m assuming is 99% of the people reading this, you are not alone.

I often find myself in a situation where one issue at hand is opened in to several itty bitty issues, creating a labyrinth of confusion that leads me nowhere. Today, as I sat down at the computer to do some simple research I immediately began wondering how i could keep my information organized in a way that would make sense but allow me to see all the options without overlapping. I tediously made spreadsheets and added webpages to my favorites, all to no avail. I was stuck. Information overload because I blew it up way too much.

As I tried to figure out how this happened again, I realized that I never seem to blow up the good things in my mind. If I am excited about something or a good thing happened, I rarely blow it up to the point where it consumes me. I allow the confusion to take the place of the good, and the potential of new exciting things is lost in the “paperwork”.

From now on, I am going to let the good multiply in my mind and blowup. For every bad thing that lingers in my mind near sleep time, I will think of a good thing, and make myself create a chain of at least 5 great things that could snowball off that one good thing. Time to let the light shine through and stop letting stress and fear consume my days…and nights.
