That “Killer Instinct” thing…

You all know that country song “Live Like You Were Dying”? Well, I have been fortunate enough to have essentially good health, give for my accident prone tendencies, allergies, and general “oopsy daisy” sicknesses that take me to the ER. A lot of people are not as lucky, and have very real illnesses that can alter their lives in major ways.

But today, I am talking about all of us who have a flu, or cold, or sinus infection, and life as we know it feels over. Yesterday, I could almost hear the tiny violins playing my sad songs as I moped in bed, sick from something that is going around. Two days in bed and I felt like life was over. How could I get back that killer instinct I am supposed to have to just take charge and plow through life with vigor? Well, for me it just came back on its own. I woke this morning and BAM, I was once again ready to take on the world.

So what am I getting at here? Things happen, life happens. We get sick, we get the shaft at work, we get times that we are just down on ourselves. We take the time to stop and recover, to lick our wounds and mope around. Then we get back up, better than ever, and keep going. Nothing or no one can destroy your life and your spirits if you don’t let them. If it was within you before, you can always find it. Have patience with yourself but keep your eye on the prize.

It is okay to have an off day, week, month, even year. But the world continues turning, life keeps happening. It is never too late to get what you want and things are never hopeless; even if you are laying in bed with the flu, replaying that sad country song over and over in your head, thinking you will never be the same. Today, after taking time off from life being sick and moving and feeling bad for myself, I am back. That killer instinct has reared its head and I am ready to take on the world and move on to bigger and better things. Let’s do this!
