Have you ever found yourself saying you need to do something (clean, run an errand, etc) but you keep putting it off until several weeks later when you find yourself saying the exact same thing? Welcome to my life.
So often, I will subconsciously find a million other things to do prior to doing something that I keep putting off. Most of the times the tasks I am putting off aren’t even very tedious or time consuming, just mentally, I push it aside.
I feel most productive when I wake up and just immediately crank out the crap I have been putting off. It feels downright euphoric to have these things checked off my list.
So why do we put things off like this? Even when they are not things that take much time or effort, and aren’t even necessarily things we don’t like doing… Sometimes the things I put off more than anything else are things I really enjoy. I saw a live show with a hypnotist recently, who said that the mundane things like driving home, getting ready for the day, etc we almost live in a hypnotized mindset. We do these things so often we are on autopilot. Some days, I will come home and sit down on the couch. Three hours later I wonder what the heck I have been doing all that time. Time just lost. I think the key to being productive really is breaking that mundane chain of nothingness we can get in to in a daily basis. Maybe this will help get those things we put off done. Day 28, change things up, get things done, and experience life off of autopilot. And… Go!
