Obviously being married and living 2 hours from my husband is not the ideal situation, but we are making it work. While we wait out my completion of my MBA and figure out where and how we are going to uproot ourselves to our chosen destination, we need to first find jobs in this mystery destination.
Now, I have had my share of “unique” resumes, different formats, fonts, paper (back when it was cool to turn in paper resumes on expensive pink paperstock). To be honest, I had never had any issues with finding the jobs I want in the place I want to be at the time I need it, but looking towards the future I will be looking for that great role that will really expand my passions and skills and knowledge and allow me to grow and thrive. I have been putting out “feeler” resumes just to see how well I am making it through the electronic systems, and honey, it is ROUGH out there in cyber land for job applicants with a functional resume!
This being said, I have decided to alter my resume back to simple text chronological for those online submissions and go from there. The hard part is really evaluating what my strengths truely are, which involves taking a look at where I have been and what I have done. The sad reality is I really have been low balling my own skills and talents with resume laziness. Time to step up to the plate, look in the mirror, and say “I’m good enough, smart enough, and gosh darnit people like me!” and then put that all on paper; in a way of course that those fancy resume/job match identifying systems like as well.
